Greeneville Band Classic 2008
Judging  & Performance Information

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a fair, positive, constructive, and enjoyable educational experience for our participating bands.  We will continue to develop and refine our system of adjudication so that all band members, directors, and supporters will feel that they were treated fairly and that the festival was beneficial to them.

JUDGING

The Judging System Philosophy

The system employed to rate and rank the bands will operate under the assumption that music is the most important aspect of a marching band’s performance.  The visual component of the program will serve to present and enhance the musical performance.  Thus, 60% of the final score will be derived from music and 40% from visual.  It should be noted that effectiveness of the musical and visual program will be given more weight than the execution.  Therefore, 60% of the final score is derived from the effect area while 40% is drawn from the performance area.

Scoring System and Judging Panel

The five-member panel of judges will consist of the following:

Music Performance Ensemble            one judge            20% of score

Visual Performance Ensemble            one judge            20% of score

Visual Effect                                      one judge           20% of score

Music Effect                                      two judges          40% of score

“Best of the Festival” Band

A “Best of the Festival” Band will be chosen based on the tabulation of the 5 band judges only.  No consideration will be given to scores from the Drum Major, Percussion or Color Guard/Majorette judges.  The contribution of the auxiliaries is already considered in the band captions.  The winning band will keep the “Traveling Trophy” until the 2007 GHS Band Festival.  At that time, the trophy will be returned and given to the winner of the 2007 festival.

Auxiliary Judging

Drum Major, Percussion and ColorGuard/Majorettes will be judged separately and awards will be presented according to their individual scores.

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE

  FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE:

The Festival has not decided on whether to use 15 minute or 20 minute intervals for field entrance/exit and performance time.  This will be determined based on the number and size of the bands performing at the festival.  Once all entry forms are received, a schedule will be built, forwarded to all participating bands and posted on the Festival website.

The order of performance for each division will be determined by the postmark on entry forms.  The earliest postmark for each division will perform last.

CLINICIAN FEEDBACK:

After bands perform on the field before the judges and spectators, they will immediately proceed to the Indoor Practice Field to receive feedback from band clinicians.  The Indoor Practice Field is located adjacent to the performance field.
