The Greeneville City Schools utilizes Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 to provide email.

Outlook Web Access (OWA) is a method to access email from any Internet connected computer.

To access OWA please click the link below. Note: clicking the link will open OWA in THIS window. You should open a new window (or tab) and return to this article if you wish.

https://mailsrv.gcschools.net/owa

This article will ALWAYS contain the correct link to the application.

Let's get started!

When you click the link above you will be presented with the login screen. It is different from the screen you saw in the past.

The major change is the ability to select Outlook Web Access Light. This should be selected if you are accessing OWA through a slow Internet connection (Dial-up).

Enter your credentials in the boxes. Please note you MUST enter your user name in this format:

gw\e2k2007test <--- The gw\ is REQUIRED.

After entering your user name, type your password into the password box and press enter or click the Log On box.

If this is the first time you have logged into OWA, you will see the options screen:

Select the options you desire and press OK.

You will see the main screen:

The rest of this article will discuss how to use the new features of OWA.

The main screen presents your email, contacts, and calendar.

Notice the folder list along the left edge of the screen. You may create new folders to organize your email by right clicking on your name at the very top of the list and selecting "Create New Folder." Later, we will show you how to create rules to automatically deliver mail to these folders.

With OWA 2007 you have a full-featured Calendar as well as contact management.

Your calendar will look like this:

You may create a new event or appointment by double-clicking anywhere in the box for a date. You may enter a Subject, the location, and the pertinent details. In the large box at the bottom of the screen, you may enter any notes that may be useful for this appointment. If you unclick "All day event," you may enter the time frame for the appointment.

You also have a contact list.

Notice the information that has been provided about this contact. Notice also the link near the bottom "Map This Address . . ." If you click the link, a new window will open with the address of this contact shown on a map of the area. From this screen you would be able to get driving directions if you need them.

The most exciting new feature of OWA is the ability for you to obtain READ ONLY access to your I:\ drive!

If you would like to add your I:\ drive to OWA, click the documents icon at the bottom left of the screen. Select Open Location. A box will open asking you for the location of the share you want to attach.

Please see your building technology leader, or contact Larry, for what to type in this box (it cannot be published to the web for security reasons). You may also attach to any SharePoint portal through this box.

Now that we have taken a quick tour of OWA, lets return to the main screen (click the envlope icon on the left side of your screen) and learn how to handle email.

Messages are delivered to your inbox (or the folders you have created). To view a message, simply click the message in the upper part of the screen. The message will be displayed either on the right side of the screen or on the bottom of the screen. To change where your messages are previewed, locate the menu bar (it is just under the word "Inbox." Click the second icon - the one to the right of "New." You may select how messages are previewed from this drop-down.

I have selected a message with a Word attachment.

Notice "Open as Web Page" to the right of the document name. Click this link and a new window will open to show you the document.

Other people may send you an invitation to a meeting or event. When the message arrives in your inbox you may accept the message and it will be automatically added to your calendar.

Finally, you may search for people in our address list from the main screen (this can also be used to search your personal contacts). In the box in the upper right corner of the window which reads "Find Someone" type any part of the name for which you are searching and press enter. You may also click the book icon to the left of this box and browse.

That covers most of the features of OWA! A future article will show the options you may control and how to change your password.
