English III – Research Paper

It’s that dreaded time– the Junior Research Paper.  No problem, no sweat.

We’ll work together to make this a smooth process.

Library Time –11/3-11   Library and Lab - 11/10 and 11/111

 

Time Line & Due Dates:

You should have selected a topic before you enter the library, and it must be approved by me.

11/3 – Work on rough draft of outline

11/10 – Note cards and source cards due.

11/10  - Conferencing and checking of outline (outline should be checked by 11/7) Typing of rough draft

11/11 - All research should be done

11/18 – Rough Draft Due to turnitin.com and to Mrs. House

11/24 – Library, correct rough drafts

12/4 - Final copy due to turnitin.com and to Mrs. House These dates may change based on teacher discretion.  Should dates change, students will be notified in a timely manner, and the new dates will be placed on our calendar page.

All drafts will be submitted both in a typed hard copy and via Turnitin.com.

Students have already set up their accounts.

Paper Requirements:

MLA Formatting – Modern Language Association

Typed Cover Page

Outline with Thesis Statement

Typed and double-spaced 4-6 pages of text.

Typed Works Cited page –This is different than a bibliography page.  This page lists only those works used in the paper.

Typed Bibliography page.- This page lists ALL works researched.

All margins set to 1 inch

Each body page + works cited page must be numbered with student last name and page number in upper right corner.  Go to Insert, Page Number, Click on the # symbol, click on right justification on the top toolbar, click before the page number and type last name, click close.  This will automatically number all subsequent pages. First page of text numbered and all subsequent pages numbered with student last name and page number (Example:  House 1, House 2, House 3). This includes Works Cited page.

9 x 12 envelope All papers must be in an envelope that I will provide for you. You must have the rubric, final copy, rough draft, Xerox copies, and note cards.  You may also turn in diskette with paper if you do not have internet access to electronically submit paper to turnitin.com Please save your paper to you digital locker.

Grading:

This signed paper + one daily grade

Outline with Thesis  = 1 daily grade ( A good outline means you're on the right track.  If you have an A for your outline, that doesn't mean you'll get an A for your paper.  This is one step of the process.) 

Note cards/Bibliography cards/ = 1 daily grade  

Rough Draft = 1daily grade  ( A good draft means you're on the right track.  If you have an A for your draft, that doesn't mean you'll get an A for your paper.  This is another step of the process, and more work needs to be done.) 

Final Draft:    Content = 2 Essay grades              Mechanics – 1 test grade

 

NOTE:  Final Draft will be due 7 days after teacher returns graded and marked rough draft to the student.  If the paper is not returned on the 7th day, there will be a 10-point deduction for each day of lateness.  After 5 days – the paper cannot and will not earn over a 50. 

 

Parents will be notified immediately when a student fails to meet the deadline for rough draft/final draft.
