Parenthetical References:

ü  You must give credit to someone if you use their words, their original ideas, or their interesting, unusual facts.  You MUST!

ü  Their work is used to support YOUR ideas.

ü  You put the author's last name and the page number in (  )  after the information or at the end of the sentence where the information is.  If the ( ) is at the end of the sentence, the end mark will go after ( ).  This is like our CRUCIBLE paper.

ü   If you use the author's name in your paragraph, you only need the page number UNLESS you've used two works by the same author.  See below.

ü  According to some, dreams express "profound aspects of personality" (Foulkes  184), though others disagree.

OUTLINE TO ROUGH DRAFT  A 100 on your outline doesn't mean a 100 on your draft.  Read the comments!

v  Every Roman numeral MUST have a topic sentence and a conclusion sentence.

v  Every paragraph you make MUST have a topic and conclusion sentence.

v  The Roman numeral sections might be LONG paragraphs, but you'll probably find that your lettered sections will be paragraphs.

v  Every letter must have a general sentence (like a topic sentence for each lettered section).

v  Every letter and number MUST be explained and elaborated upon. Use your techniques: cause and effect, personal anecdote, compare and contrast, expert testimony, facts and statistics, authoritative quotes, definitions. This time all of them are real because you found them in your research.

v  REMEMBER, USE YOUR SOURCES.  THEY ARE YOUR STRENGTH.
