Educational Assistance

According to an article published in the January 28, 2004 issue of the Greeneville Sun, working students are now eligible to receive financial assistance to cover educational related expenses.
The Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency, Inc. has announced a new program that will assist working high school students with educational related expenses.
The Individual Development Accounts Saving Program's (IDA) intentions are to help working high school students save for needed educational items by providing a tri-fold program focusing

upon matched savings accounts, financial literacy training, and individual counseling.
This program will enable working high school students save money for needed educational items by receiving matching funds for money deposited in a savings account. Each dollar saved (to a maximum of $500) will be matched with $2 to be directed toward educational expenses.
The intent of the matching component is to promote regular savings habits by the working high school student.

Each student enrolling in the program will be required to attend seminars related to personal finance, developing appropriate spending habits, proper credit usage, and investing. A one-on-one budget counseling will be available for students needing this assistance.
If you are a working high school student and plan to pursue a post-secondary education contacting Gail Bowers, IDA program specialist, is an absolute necessity. The telephone number is     639-3612.
Make that call and start saving today for your educational expenses.
