Principles of Machining & Manufacturing

Program Description

A student enrolled in the Machine Tool Technology program will receive training in the following:

  • blueprint reading
  • traditional machining
  • computer numerical control machining

 

The Principles of Machining and Manufacturing program emphasizes a hands-on learning environment. The candidate for the Machine Tool Technology program should have the following:

  • problem solving skills
  • good working math ability
  • mechanical drawing is strongly recommended but not required

 

 

Employment Opportunities

There are over 9,000 machinists in the state of Tennessee and room for many more. Over 25 businesses in Greene County alone employ machinists. The need for machinists continues to grow. With approximately 450 openings for machinists in Tennessee per year. The occupation will see an increase of 39 percent through the year 2005. Currently, there is a large demand for skilled machinists in the Greeneville-Greene County area.

 

 

Certification/Articulation/Post-Secondary Training

Students who complete the   Principles of Machining and Manufacturing program will qualify for advanced placement in the Machine Tool Technology program at Northeast State Technical Community College.

A certificate from the Center for Technology is awarded to each student earning 4 credits.
