Clifford

Clifford the Big Red Dog is a favorite character for children in a preschool setting. We did a variety of activities during the week of Clifford.

Writing Center: We used the word cards: big, dog, red, and Clifford.

Art Center: We used our fine motor skills to tear small pieces of red construction paper and glue them on a large drawing of Clifford to make him red and when finished he looks sort of furry from all the torn edges. This project took the entire week to complete and then we found a place to display him in our classroom for the rest of the year.

We make Clifford Days t-shirts by using a large round sponge and one small round sponge, dipped in red material paint, to make dog foot prints on our shirts. The children loved the t-shirts that looked like Clifford had walked all over them!

Math and Manipulatives: We made a Clifford number/counting game using large index cards and Clifford stickers. The children counted the Clifford's and matched the number to the index card. They were rewarded for their efforts with a Clifford stamp!

Books: There are many Clifford books by Norman Bridwell that can be incorporated into math, holiday, and family oriented themes.

We had a surprise visit from Clifford on Friday during nap time. He came and left stickers on all of our friends cheeks while they were resting.
