The following types of experience are acceptable:

Verified administrative, supervisory and teaching experience in public schools or private schools approved by recognized accrediting agencies or approved by the Tennessee Department of Education. |

Full-time higher education teaching experience in an institution approved by a regional accrediting association. | |
|
Teaching experience in Department of Defense K-12 schools overseas. | |

Up to a maximum of five years of active military service in the armed forces of the United States prior to May 31, 1975. In addition, active duty undertaken by educators in Desert Storm/Desert Shield may be counted. In any case, the maximum amount of an active military time acceptable for salary rating is five years. Military service in the Reserve or National Guard, other than active duty, is not counted. |
Recognized accrediting agencies are: the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the other regional association of colleges and schools, the Departments of Education in the respective states and for foreign teaching experience, a letter on the respective country’s Ministry of Education letterhead indicating that the school in which the experience was gained was an approved Ministry of Education school.
In
Tennessee, specifically, the following are recognized approval agencies:
the Tennessee Department of Education, the Tennessee Association of
Christian Schools, Harding Academy of Memphis, Mississippi Private School
Association, Southern Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist, Kindercare,
Catholic Diocese of Nashville, Catholic Diocese of Knoxville, Catholic Diocese
of Memphis, and
the Tennessee Association of Non-Public Schools (TANAS).
The
training factor in determining a teacher’s acceptable salary rating is taken
ONLY from the teacher’s license. Only
the degree appearing on the license is used.
Teachers not holding a valid license will be removed from all reports. If a valid license is not obtained by June 30 of any year, the experience for that year will not be added to the teacher’s experience.
