Lyle C. Ailshie, ED.D. - Director of
Schools
Welcome to the web site of the
Greeneville City School System. Greeneville is
a small town of approximately 16,000 nestled
in the foothills of the Unaka Mountains, which
is a part of the Great Smoky Mountains. The
system includes four elementary schools (EastView,
Hal Henard, Highland, and Tusculum View), one
middle school (Greeneville Middle), one high
school (Greeneville High School), and one
vocational/technical school
(Greeneville-Greene County Center for
Technology). Total student enrollment is
approximately 2750. Approximately 25% of
these students are tuition paying students.
On our web site you will find a
variety of information, ranging from in-system
communication to student achievement data. If
you can’t find what you are looking for here,
don’t hesitate to call or email us. We will be
more than happy to provide any information you
may need.
The Greeneville City School
System has a rich tradition of exemplary
student achievement. Recent student
achievement data ranks the system as one of
the state’s lighthouse school districts.
Whether examining curriculum offerings, ACT
scores, Advance Placement courses,
extracurricular activities, athletics, band,
chorus, or the many other indicators of a
successful school system, you will quickly
realize that students and their needs come
first.
Recent accomplishments include
Greeneville Middle School being named a 21st
Century School of Distinction, one of just
twenty awards received nationally. This
designation has resulted in the recognition
that a world-class education is possible in
Northeast Tennessee. EastView Elementary
School has been named National Blue
Ribbon Award by the State Commissioner of
Education, Dr. Lana Seivers. This designation
is made by the U.S. Department of Education. Tusculum
View Elementary School has been designated a
Blue Ribbon School of Excellence
"Lighthouse School."
The school system has just
completed an approximately $37 million
facility upgrade program. Every school in the
system has been enhanced in some way, with the
major focus on a complete high school addition
and renovation. A 1200-seat performing arts
center was completed in the fall of 2004.
This center was
made possible through a model partnership of
private and public funding. This facility brings cultural arts events to East Tennessee
previously only imagined.
I encourage you to fully
explore our web site and learn more about our
system. I also hope you will have the
opportunity to visit and see for yourself what
is going on in our schools. Our Vision is to
“be a world-class public school system, the
standard by which others are measured.” We are
pleased with our progress, but plan to
continue our journey with passionate
persistence.
